Description: Join us for an informative session exploring the role and impact of Marine Protected Area (MPA) Collaboratives in California. Learn how these collaborative efforts bring together stakeholders, scientists, and communities to enhance ocean conservation and sustainable management practices. Discover the unique challenges and successes faced by MPAs, and gain insights into the collaborative strategies employed to protect marine biodiversity and habitats. From community engagement to innovative research initiatives, this presentation sheds light on the critical work being done to safeguard California’s coastal ecosystems and promote a healthier ocean environment.
Speaker Bio: Krystle is a linguaphile and environmental advocate whose passion stems from being born, raised, and regularly inspired by her hometown, Pacoima, with its deep cultural and community roots. It is also a Brown and Black Los Angeles neighborhood with a history of redlining and one long bus ride away—from another bus—to the coast. The juxtaposition of a community physically close yet systemically separated and far from the ocean propels her to work for equitable and just access to land, air, and water for all.
