When it comes to shopping, it is increasingly important that our actions on every level be given a thoughtful approach. Here at the Central Coast State Parks Association, we strive to stock our stores with quality products that are locally or USA made, whenever possible. In addition, we are committed to sourcing our products from companies that are dedicated to environmental and social practices which are sustainable and fair. Our goal is to make conscious shopping easy and fun!
Last year, one of our past retail managers, Shairee Collins, reached out to ask us if CCSPA might be interested in checking out a vendor she knew, ADKTD Lifestyle Apparel. Shairee thought this company would be a great partner for CCSPA, and, well… she was right! (Thanks Shairee!)
What impressed us most about Nathan and his company was the sense of caring that ADKTD Lifestyle creates in every interaction. Nathan takes his business above and beyond, fostering relationships with retail accounts, managing inventory, helping with marketing and advertising, and personally delivering products.
The Story of ADKTD
Founded in 2014 and creatively directed by fashion entrepreneur Nathan Seashore, ADKTD Lifestyle is a unique, effortless and comfortable clothing brand for women, men and children, created for the laid back California lifestyle. Handmade in Santa Barbara, CA with locally sourced materials, every ADKTD Lifestyle piece is handcrafted to perfection and can be worn all year round, making it a great addition to anyone’s wardrobe. ADKTD Lifestyle is created to showcase everyone’s unique style and individuality.
Nathan’s Vision
Inspired by the wide array of life experiences growing up, and early exposure to fashion, Nathan saw the need to create a clothing brand that is both ethically handmade and affordable for people of all ages and backgrounds. Embodying his own sense of style, Nathan designed and created pieces that are unique, versatile, and trendy, yet simple with a pop of classic. ADKTD Lifestyle started small at local fashion boutiques in Santa Barbara; as of today, the line has expanded throughout the California coast as well as in retail stores in five different states.
Making a Positive Impact
At ADKTD Lifestyle, we think it’s time to do better and come together to make positive changes in our planet. We strive to keep our production local and safe from harmful materials to our environment. Our handmade pieces are made to last, which is why quality has been our priority since day one; to this day, each piece is individually handcrafted with eco friendly and local US made materials.
Giving Back
Over the years, we have had the privilege to participate in many fundraisers such as Hope for Haiti, the Teddy Bear Cancer Foundation, 2017 Thomas Fire and Central Coast State Parks. Recently, we have hand-fabricated and donated thousands of facemasks to local and out-of-state healthcare professionals, essential businesses, friends and families. We take pride in our community and are very grateful to be in a position to be “fashion that gives back” whenever an opportunity is presented.
CCSPA + ADKTD Lifestyle = <3 <3 <3
So now you know why we are so “ADKTD” to Nathan’s products! Nathan was able to work with us to design a unique line of custom CCSPA apparel which reflects the character of each of our local state parks. Below is the inspiration behind each of the designs we chose:
Northern Pacific Rattlesnake
Montaña de Oro State Park is home to the Northern Pacific Rattlesnake. Rattlesnakes are important members of our natural community. Rattlesnakes are not poisonous, they are venomous and will not strike without a reason. If rattlesnakes are given some space and some time to escape to a safe place, they will usually just crawl away as fast as possible and avoid confrontation.
Bobcat
Lynx Rufus or the Bobcat, is no stranger to Montaña de Oro State Park. This small California Native California cat plays a very important role in the health and biodiversity of an ecosystem. The bobcat eats rodents and other small mammals which aids in maintaining plant diversity. Soils are enriched by nutrients from fed upon carcasses. Birds rely on worms and insects in carcasses. As of January 1st 2020 hunting of Bobcats is no longer allowed.
California Grizzly Bear
The California Grizzly Bear is an iconic symbol of the history of Los Osos Valley. The story goes that in 1772, Governor Pedro Fages led an expedition to La Cañada de Los Osos to hunt grizzly bears in an effort to thwart starvation in the two northern missions. Their efforts brought in about 9,000 pounds of bear meat from the hunting of 30 bears.
The California Grizzly Bear was once widespread across California. It thrived off an abundance of acorns, salmon, small and large mammals. Hunted to extinction in the mid 1920’s, the California Grizzly lives in story books and on our state flag. Western Monarch
Thousands of Western Monarch butterflies visit the Central Coast from October through February during their annual migration south. The Monarchs that migrate to the Pismo State Beach Monarch Grove are part of an ongoing study. Research at the grove is helping scientists discover more about life patterns of the monarchs. Sadly, our Western Monarch populations are in crisis. According to the Xerces Society, the 2018-2019 overwintering population of the Western Monarch is at its “lowest level ever recorded—less than 1% of historic populations, and a dizzying 86% drop from the year prior.” To be inspired and read more about monarch conservation, check out the Xerces Society website.
Long-Billed Curlew
The Long- Billed curlew might be one of the central coast of California’s most iconic shorebirds. It stands at more than a foot tall and is easily recognized by its long and decurved bill. Curlews enjoy the central coast winters for many of the same reasons we do, mild climate and long stretches of sandy uncrowded beach shoreline. The curlew breed in the grasslands the intermountain west which consists of four major geographic provinces: the Great Basin, Colorado Plateau, Middle Rocky Mountains, and Northern Rocky Mountains.
Unfortunately the Long-billed Curlew populations have declined substantially over the past 150 years. Although a number of factors contribute to this decline, habitat loss and degradation from agriculture and urban sprawl as well as climate change continues to be a major factor.
Wave
Our newest applique, the Pismo State Beach wave is inspired by the recreational opportunities offered here on the Central Coast! Over two million people visit Pismo Beach annually to enjoy the beautiful coast line and recreate in its waters. Surfing, body boarding and swimming in the pacific ocean is a lifestyle for many.
