The idea for Coastal Peaks Coffee, a local coffee roasting company and wholesale distributor, emerged a little after 1989 when owner Mike Knight started a small coffee business called simply “Mike’s Coffee and Tea.” A few business deals later, and Knight had successfully opened his own micro-roasting coffee company, where his love for coffee and the central coast community coalesced to form Coastal Peaks Coffee.
Coastal Peaks, located off Higuera Street in San Luis Obispo, prides itself off using ethically-sourced organic beans from small estates and co-ops, and creating relationships with each of their own café customers and the cafés who they distribute to.
The company’s community focus, coupled with their emphasis on sustainability, was what initially inspired CCSPA director Kristin Howland to ask Knight for a partnership between the two organizations. Knight happily agreed, and shortly after was the collaborative creation of the State Park Coffee Blends.
“Mike likes coffee, but he likes people way more,” said Coastal Peaks Cafe manager Rachel Stepro. Aiding another organization whose goals were similarly community-centric and environmentally focused required no hesitation on the Knight’s end, Stepro said.
The outcome of the partnership is a Coffee and Mug gift set, which comes with one pound of light roast (Pismo Beach roast) or dark roasted (Montaña de Oro roast) coffee and a mug–a perfect gift for those who are lovers of both coffee and nature (or even better, those of us who love a good cup of coffee in the morning, while in the middle of nature). The other option is simply to purchase 12 oz of coffee beans of either roast for $16.
A portion of the proceeds from the coffee sales supports the educational programs offered in our local State Parks, so hurry today to purchase your own and assist the local state parks! Visit our online store and get some Coastal Peaks Coffee today!
