Description: Sophia will chat about the importance of prescribed fire and how it can be used as a tool for land management and community resilience in SLO County.
About the Presenter: Sophia Marquez is the Lead Coordinator and Co-Founder of the San Luis Obispo Prescribed Burn Association. She graduated from Cal Poly in 2021, with a degree in Environmental Management and Protection and a minor in Sustainable Environments. For five years years, she worked a variety of environmental education and consulting biologist jobs before contracting the “fire bug” and starting the SLO PBA in 2024. Now, she works with local stakeholders and agencies to help increase the pace and scale of prescribed fire in SLO County. She also has a particular fondness for SLO County’s local oak woodlands, coastal prairies, and riparian forests.
